Clay Aiken's New CD "Tried and True" -- It's Almost Time!!!

Two weeks to go! After listening to every snippet "out there" (iTunes/Clay Aiken, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble), I know Clay's new CD "Tried and True" is going to be beautiful -- both vocally and instrumentally. His voice glides over the notes and his phrasing is particularly unique. The musicians on the CD really do an outstanding job supporting and complimenting Clay's voice.

With David Sanborn performing with Clay on "What Kind of Fool and I", Linda Eder (http://www.lindaeder.com ) in a duet on "Crying", and Vince Gill's (http://www.vincegill.com/main/index.php) guitar enhancing "Moon River", how can this be anything but a treat for the ears. Clay also sings "Misty" and my favorite "It's Impossible" with a soft tenderness not often heard today. "Suspicious Minds" and "Mack the Knife" are also among my favorites.

"Just in: Clay Aiken is releasing his fifth studio Album, Tried and True, on June 1. The new CD is comprised of songs Clay grew up listening to, from the 50's and 60's.

Tried and True is the title because Clay feels the songs have stood the test of time, says the release, "To me older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful," he says. "So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself." Highlights include: Can't Take My Eyes Off You, made famous by Frankie Falli; Misty, the Johnny Mathis hit, and a soulful rendition of Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds."

CLAY AIKEN'S NEW SONGS REVEALED:

Two songs "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" and "Misty" were revealed on Clay's myspace today:

Both songs reveal Clay's amazingly supple voice in the bouncy lyrics of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" and then glides with such tenderness over the notes and lyrics of "Misty". The sounds of "Misty" harkens back to the days of soft music, couples holding each other close, and dancing. Just beautiful.

Clay's new CD "TRIED AND TRUE" with more great songs like "MAKE THE KNIFE", "WHO'S SORRY NOW", "UNCHAINED MELODY", "MOON RIVER", "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE", and "SUSPICIOUS MINDS" -- will be released on June 1st.

I was there.

March 13, 2010, Memorial Auditorium, Raleigh, NC -- the night of Clay Aiken's PBS Special taping. I wandered into the venue after a hot wait in the lobby area and losing my seat mate. Found my seat on Row G in the Orchestra. The venue seemed smokey a bit but, thank goodness, cooler. My friend found me and as we chatted and looked around -- we could see at least 9 cameras in our view -- I've never been to a taping of a concert before -- this was so different! The crowd filed in and seats filled -- the anticipation and excitement made the air electric.

In a few minutes, someone with the PBS group came out in front of the curtains with a "welcome" and possible to rev up the crowd. No need for that as he found out!

Then -- we waited. The curtains opened. Clay was standing there between the two groups of musicians -- his back to the crowd. He turned, strolled to the mic --and blew the roof off with "Mack the Knife". Clay Aiken is back! The musicians were fantastic -- the lighting was just amazing,

The evening of song, voice, lighting, sound, music was incredible! Clay sang full out with such happiness other great songs "Suspicious Minds", "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You", "Who's Sorry Now", and sung with such softness and nuance, "In My Life" and "Misty". There was Clay's own version of "Unchained Melody" which knocked us back in our seats -- with a note or sound I've never heard in that song before -- oh my!

It was 90 minutes of Clay Aiken's beautiful voice, many standing ovations, his tribute to some of his teachers from his school years, the recognizing of a delightful fan who had traveled 36 hrs., and on 4 buses to get to Raleigh for that special night, an amazing duet with Linda Eder, and a wonderful medley with Ruben Studdard and Quiana Parler -- all in all -- as I said earlier -- an incredible evening. Clay never looked or sounded better!

Much as I did not want it to end -- it did -- all too soon! The phrase heard so much after the show was "OMG!"

This has now become the "OMG Concert". It describes it well.
